Kate and the life changing Kenny

Life for Kate, before being partnered with Kenny, was really tough. In 2019 she was told there were no treatment options left to her which could mitigate the symptoms caused by the condition PoTS. She spent hours in A&E following emergency ambulance trips at all hours of day and night.

She was passing out several times a day and sustaining serious injuries. These included broken bones, dislocations, cuts and bruises and multiple concussions. The concussions were so frequent that doctors told her she faced the risk of long term brain damage if she sustained anymore.

School was a struggle even though she was never left alone, to the extent that she was accompanied to the toilet in case of an episode. However Kate made it to university only to find her condition made it impossible. She felt isolated and lonely.

Happily this is now in the past. ‘Life has changed so much since I got Kenny’ says Kate. ‘I almost can’t recognise life before him. I still pass out several times a day but I’m able to stay safe because of his alerts.’

Kenny is a 3 year old black labrador who according to Kate ‘will eat anything’. ‘He is fun loving and always caring for me.’ She adds.
Kate, who was once unable to be left alone, was able to host a weekend for 80 Girlguiding young adults and says the lead up to Christmas was amazing for her as she was able to enjoy the festivities like everyone else thanks to Kenny.

‘He is the best sidekick I could ask for. At home we snuggle up in bed or on the sofa having cuddles and kisses. He is funny, goofy, caring and loving. He has changed the life of the whole family for the better.’
